CORAL GABLES — Ten minutes from Miami’s traffic, there’s a jungle. Eighty-three acres of it.
Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is one of the great tropical gardens in the world: rare palms, flowering trees, a rainforest exhibit, and a butterfly conservatory where the residents land wherever they please. Paths wind past lakes and through collections of plants from every tropical corner of the planet, and photographers treat the whole place like an outdoor studio.
It’s the side of Miami most visitors never see — no velvet ropes, no bass at midnight, just green. Families picnic, artists sketch, and during the garden’s famous events and festivals, half of Miami shows up.
If your Miami trips have been all beach and nightlife, put Fairchild on the list and see what the city is hiding.
