FROM FLORIDA TO VIRAL: Meet the Black-Owned Candy Business Making Waves Online
By Staff Reports
DELAND — Florida’s latest viral sensation isn’t a gator in a pool or a tourist doing something questionable. It’s candy — freeze-dried candy, made in small batches right here in DeLand, and the internet can’t get enough of the crunch.
YumNums takes familiar sweets and freeze-dries them into light, puffy, crunchy creations with a texture you have to experience to understand. Shapow Sticks, Watermelon YumNums, Sour Blast — the videos of people biting into them and reacting to that crunch have carried the little Florida company from kitchen experiments to schools, TikTok feeds, and customers across the United States.
It’s a Black-owned, family-operated business building its own lane in a market dominated by giant corporations — proof that a good idea, a freeze dryer, and a phone camera can still out-hustle a candy aisle.
Disclosure: YumNums is close to home for the Florida Chatter family — and we’re proud of them. We feature Florida businesses we believe in, and we tell you when one is family.
