THE FRUIT STAND EVERYBODY STOPS FOR: Robert Is Here

HOMESTEAD — It started in 1959 with a little boy, a card table, and a sign his father made so drivers would actually stop: “Robert Is Here.” Drivers have been stopping ever since.
Today Robert Is Here is one of Florida’s most famous fruit stands — a sprawling Homestead landmark stacked with exotic tropical fruit you won’t find in any grocery store, plus local honey, preserves, and a petting zoo out back. But the real legend is the milkshake line: fresh-fruit shakes and smoothies blended from whatever’s ripe, in combinations (key lime, mamey, guanabana…) that have made this a mandatory stop on the way to the Everglades and the Keys.
It pairs perfectly with Fruit & Spice Park, just minutes away — taste fallen fruit in the groves, then drink a milkshake made from the same harvest. That’s a South Florida food day done right.
